Project location:Guangzhou
Completion time:2020.5
Project area:645㎡
Chief designer:Li Xiang
Project directors:Ren Lijiao, Wu Feng

In the prosperous and habitable city of Guangzhou, Zhongshuge was born at the right moment. Designers rewrote the life of the duplex bookstore in the two layers of space with cultural symbols of the city, and interpreted the modern life with humanistic temperature.

The Guangzhou store has two entrances. Looking at the outdoor landscape area along the street, the main entrance emerges. The European style facade encased the classic subtitle glass wall, and the dark wood ornament door head displays the solemnity of the sanctuary. Under lights and shadows, a tranquil and profound world gradually unfolds.

The entrance door is a wooden wall embedded in the subtitle glass facade. The light is easily captured into the room, displaying the context and temperament in a warm manner. As a symbolic transitional space sign of Zhong Shu Ge, it is also a window to reflect the cultural landscape.

Entering the anteroom, the external noise is cut off. The European style living room renovations and furnishings are full of elegance and cultural ambience . The concrete wall extends to the facade wall and becomes a mirror frame of the bookshelf. It reflects people and books in the mirror. The green grey ceiling lamp is like a "guiding light" and illuminates the readers' mind to the bookcases with artistic furniture sense. The mirror floor will reverse the foyer's view so that the quietness of the space rises.

Walking to the reading area, the elegant diamond mosaic parquets the wood floor, the book sea path bends into the landscape, the high and low dark brown bookcases distribution hall scatters on both sides. The deep green leather sofa with a block is next to a corner, which provides convenience for the readers to sit and rest, explore and browse. On both sides of the table, the cultural symbol of the Linnan architectural features, the design of the "Wok Ear House" integrated into the facade wall, becomes a natural landscape. The designer is aware of the clear style of Cantonese style houses, leaving the unique ancient village spirit in the books, perfectly integrating the life wisdom and beautiful yearning of the residents under the characteristics of the times.

The three wok ear shapes are linked together as a theme book area, and are made of partition walls by bookcases. In the thematic area of the wall curtain, books are placed in the wall hanging picture frame, just like the art exhibits at home. The interesting segmentation by the designers effectively divides the books into categories, so that readers can enjoy relatively private space.

In view of the low storey of space, the ceiling in the reading area adopts a dark mirror with a penetrating sense. It not only enlarges the space visually, but also enhances the brightness of the room. In the virtual and real image, the deep wooden color of the wok ears is echoed in series, and flows to the distant.

On the second floor, sitting on the coffee shop promenade with a cup of coffee is comfortable and interesting. The dark blue marble tabletop is supported by the champagne golden column stand and arranged in a regular manner, which can satisfy people sitting alone and reading, constructing a rich inner world, or enjoying a leisurely time with three or five friends. One side of the coffee area is the selling point for catering, separated by the arched wall cloth. The other side is to use the wok to create landscapes, and a series of different kinds of exhibition tables are set up for readers.

The scenery in the hall is not only limited to this. The beautiful scenery are anywhere under eyesight. When you are reading books and lowering your head, you will find another pleasant surprise created by the designer. The Cantonese Manchuria window is full of different colors in the deep brown ceiling. It absorbs the aesthetic features of the Western church. With the combination of traditional Chinese window decorations, the graceful charm of the Manchuria window has become a beautiful scenery and more skillfully attached to the ceiling, which displays a unique scenery. The color glass is interlaced with lights and shadows. It is like bathing in the magical fairyland of poetry and painting. It is the designer's respect and longing for the old traditional art, which has formed a different spatial feeling, hoping to open the reader's heart with artistic windows.

The children's world in the picture book is naturally colorful and full of imagionation. In the two corners, in the profusion of colors, between the clouds and the sea, wok houses are next to each other, scattered, and the walls of art are delineated in details. The functional layout creates soft comfort zones. The designers interprets the traditional beauty of Guangzhou with the design language, while the children learn to grow up in the Ancient Village Lane, observe and contemplates on the world.

If culture is the root and soul of a city, Zhong Shu Ge is the oasis nourishing the spirit of Guangzhou. On this oasis, people who live in it can meet their true self, and the memory of the city will also be meaningful and renewed forever.
