The project is located in Sunac Jinan. After examining the site conditions, the designer made full advantage of the floor height and open space and created a three-dimensional city-like indoor playground. Different from other indoor playground projects in traditional shopping malls where consumers from the outside can only have a glimpse of the interior space of the playground through the window, the design of Jinan Meland Club completely abandons the use of façade walls and uses decorative railings as barriers, so that consumers in the mall can see the whole design of the entire playground from the outside.
This is a fantasy paradise hidden in a garden. The designer brought in the most beautiful spring colours, the most vibrant flowers and plants in full bloom into the space, and the castles made of flowers come into view. Soft and colorful colors paint the most spring-like scenery, which lifts visitors’ mood. Inside the 5,150 square meters space, the designer carefully planned the layout of each functional area to utilize the size of the space. Intense activities, such as arcade, ball pool, and maze are set up along the outside of the space, so that customers who pass by can be immediately drawn to the delightful atmosphere of children playing inside. The simulation city and the interactive stage are placed in the center of the playground, so that the designer can plan tortuous exploration paths and enrich children’s experience.
The designer took advantage the 16.5 meters height of the space and created a three-dimensional vertical transportation system that is safe and interesting. Stairs are used to connect the rooms in the vertical space, and platforms on the same horizontal plane are connected by corridors. In addition to the climbing activities and the fun of exploration in the three-dimensional space, several large-scale rotating slides are created as an additional exploration route for children who are looking for a more exciting experience. The largest rotating slide has a maximum height of 13.8 meters, providing children with a joyful experience of quickly falling into the dreamy center of the playground.
The designer integrated various functionalities into the theme design of the space, turning little flowers into functional units such as lockers, guide signs, sofas and so on. Walking into the space feels like going down a rabbit hole and fall into a fantasy world, the most beautiful and entertaining experience for children you can imagine is just around the corner. The project also added amusement equipment such as carousel, interactive games, sightseeing train, etc, making the playground experience much similar to large amusement parks. The integration of interactive technologies with design aesthetics enriches the experience of the immersive park. Under the influence of the environment, children are able to learn the natural pursuit and keen perception of beautiful things during their playtime inside the playground. At the reception at the entrance, the designer custom designed a large flower like decorative clock with the function of bell ringing, which adds a full sense of ceremony and makes the project a symbolic presence inside the mall that attracts attention.
The whole project provides a sense of fantasy, and the details contain infinite interest points to explore. Breaking through people's imagination and traditional expectations of indoor playgrounds, the designer uses architectural techniques and arranged the seemingly disordered equipment, amusement functions, leisure activities and so on into a reasonable and comfortable circulation. The design just provides children with wings of imagination and takes them to a fantasy paradise in their dreams.
