The 1000 Libraries Awards recently announced the final list for the “2025 World's Top 10 Most Beautiful Bookstores.” In May 2025, based on indicators such as social media popularity and online reviews, the organizers shortlisted 19 bookstores worldwide. After a 60-day online voting period, more than 200,000 votes were cast from around the globe.
Designed by X+Living, Dujiangyan Zhongshuge stood out in the competition, earning a place among the “World's Top 10 Most Beautiful Bookstores” and becoming the only Chinese bookstore on the list. Other winners include world-renowned landmarks such as Boekhandel Dominicanen (Maastricht, Netherlands), Shakespeare and Company (Paris, France), and El Ateneo Grand Splendid (Buenos Aires, Argentina).
In the words of the organizers, Dujiangyan Zhongshuge is “a live surrealist painting.” As a representative of Chinese bookstore design, it not only showcases the unique aesthetics of Eastern reading spaces but also brings fresh imagination to the global landscape of bookstore design.
